XANTHOS EXCAVATIONS

The summer term archaegolocial excavations have begun in the antique city of Xanthos in Antalya's Kaş township.

Excavations will concentrate on the Roman Agora, the church and the Nereits monument. Xanthos is an iantique citiy fascinating tourists with its archaelogical wealth. The theatre, the Roman agora, Roman and Lycian type sarcophagi and Hellenistic citadels still preserve their original quality.

The antique city is on the World Heritage List with its rich historical legacy. Reputed to preserve its infra-structure dating from 2500 years ago, the antique city has been dug out by French archaeologists for 60 years. However, archeologicial excavations have been carried out by Turkish scholars for the past two years with a decision taken by the Culture and Tourism Ministry.
