It was the EU Minister Egemen Bağış who responded to Greek Cypriot leader Christofias's demand to meet the Turkish Prime Minister instead of the Turkish Republic of Northren Cyprus.

Bağış said. "He should not mix up the lines. The Prime Minister of the Republic of Turkey does not have the luxury to waste his time with so-called presidencies and half island states. "

The Greek Cypriot leader sent to Ankara the message of his wish to meet the Prime Minister.

Turkey, however, has made it clear that it is not going to have any contact whatsoever with the Greek Cypriot Administration during its EU term presidency.

Bağış said that Christofias should talk to his counterpart, the President of the Turkish Republic of Northren Cyprus, Derviş Eroğlu.

He denounced the Greek Cypriot administration and warned it against trying to hunt a lion with the swatter in its hand and said every one should take the required steps compatible with their size and stressed that Turkey was going to continue operating the support mechanisms conducive to resolving the dispute.

He also likened the term presidency of the Greek Cypriot administration to what is done in Turkey on April 23rd and said just as we seat our children on April 23 Children Day in the chairs of statesmen so that they may have a taste of what it is to be in charge, so the EU has given Southern Cyprus a six-month opportunity of getting a taste of presidency as a necessity of a rotational time-table.
