Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gennady Gatilov said the statement of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was "inconvenient".
Clinton had said "I do not believe that Russia and China are paying any price at all - nothing at all - for standing up on behalf of the Assad regime. The only way that will change is if every nation represented here directly and urgently makes it clear that Russia and China will pay a price"
Gatilov also added that the Clinton statement contradicts the strategy upon which the super powers had agreed upon to end the bloodshed in Syria at the Geneva meeting.
A response also came from China to the statements of Clinton. Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Weimin said the statement of Clinton was "totally unacceptable".
