At a press conference he held in Washington, Daalder was asked, "If the 5th article of NATO could be applied over Syria's violation of Turkey's borders?"
Daalder replied the question, "If an attack against Turkey occurs, then the North Atlantic Council and NATO countries would convene to discuss whether such an attack meets the criteria for the execution of the 5th article and requires a proper answer."
Daalder said also that there have been limited discussions over the matter in the Alliance so far, and Turkey has informed the NATO members about the developments on the border, but not demanded any military assistance due to the situation on its borders with Syria.
