The two leaders decided to start a new period in bilateral relations.
President Gül congratulated Holland on his election as the new President of France. "We would like to open a new page in deep rooted relations between Turkey and France" Gül said.
Hollande for his part said they want to restore the previous level of relations instead of wasting time with misunderstandings. Hollande also said that ministers of the two countries should often meet and that Turkey sets a political example in its region. Hollande also said that he would not use Turkey as a tool in domestic policy. Prior to these talks, President Abdullah Gül met with German Chancellor Angela Merkel at lunch at Merkel's invitation.
Praising Turkey's economic performance, Merkel asked President Gül's views on the economic crisis in Europe and the Syrian issue.
President Gül said that they follow the crisis in Europe with concern, adding that measures taken should be implemented with determination and accurately.
