Some African countries have taken important steps in the fight against illegal elephant hunt. One of them, Gabon has shown its determination and destroyed five tons of ornaments made of ivory.
$20 million worth of ivory is thought to has been collected from a thousand elephants. Ivory products are mainly sold in Far Eastern countries.
The ivory is used in making ivories for piano, billiard balls, and ornaments. Besides the hunt for their precious teeth, elephants face extinction because of losing their natural habitats.
